An alleged attempt by a 40-year-old man to record the action of a woman bathing failed when the victim realised the existence of a mobile phone on recording mode on the window of her bathroom at her condominium in Petaling Jaya, on Sunday.

Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Zaini Che Din said the suspect was found and arrested the following day (Monday) at his home in Section 12, based on an image of his identity card found on the mobile phone.

"The incident occurred at 12.03am on Nov 1, when the victim was in the bathroom before realising there was a mobile phone on the window. As soon as the victim took the phone and realised she was being recorded by the suspect, she screamed, forcing the suspect, who initially tried to retrieve the phone, to flee the scene," he said in a statement Wednesday.

According to Zaini, the suspect, however, claimed that he had lost his phone at the scene while visiting his friend who also stayed at the condominium, but did not lodge a police report about the loss.

The suspect was remanded for four days from Wednesday and the evidence has been seized and sent to the forensics department for analysis, he said.
