A manager of a cleaning company was charged in the Magistrate's Court here Tuesday with killing a six-month old baby boy whose decomposed body was found in a ravine near Genting Highlands early this month.

Wong Weng Yew, 41, is charged with murdering Esmen Zeus Yves at his (accused) house at No: 12, Cannal Garden, Jalan Anggerik Vanilla 31/98S, Section 31, Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam, between May 28 and 31 this year.

The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Wong nodded his head after the charge was read to him by a court interpreter, but no plea was recorded.

Magistrate Norshakinah Ahmad Kamarudin set July 14 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Rohaida Che Hamid prosecuted, while Wong was unrepresented.

Meanwhile, Wong's wife, who was detained to facilitate investigation on the case, was released with a court bond of RM50,000, would be made a prosecution witness.

The media had reported that the couple was detained to facilitate investigation on a report of a missing baby by an Indonesian maid end of last month.

This led police to the discovery of the baby's body last June 4.
