IPOH: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador has revealed that there are more than five drug syndicates masterminded by VVIPs with the titles of Datuk and Tan Sri.

He assured that they can no longer escape or go into hiding as the police already have complete data and information about them.

"We have been monitoring this for a long time, only that we have a problem to get some evidence that can implicate them directly, but insyaAllah we will be able to.

"So, there is no other alternative in our country when drugs are so rampant. The seizures that the Narcotics Department has done are worth billions, millions every week.

"Every week, they diligently carry out operation after operation. Every week there will be success in defeating one or two syndicates," he said when met after the closing ceremony of the Constable Basic Course for Orang Asli series 1/2020 at the PGA Ulu Kinta North Brigade here, today.

Abdul Hamid said the police is serious in taking action against the VVIPs to ensure that the drug problem can be eradicated.

According to him, the effort will be in vain if only the bottom layer, which is the distribution, is eradicated while the top layer is at large.

On Sunday, the media reported three individuals with the titles of Datuk and Tan Sri were suspected to be the main masterminds of a drug cartel in the country being under police observation.

All the individuals were said to use cunning tactics by hiding behind businesses such as hospitality, shipping, transportation and steel to prevent their activities from being sniffed by the authorities.
