A man riding a motorcycle died after being hit by a lorry coming from the opposite direction in Kampung Teluk, Sungai Dua, here, last night.

In the incident at 11.16 pm, the victim, Asmadi Darus, 48, who was thrown onto the road, died at the scene due to severe head injuries.

Seberang Prai district police chief ACP Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said the accident was believed to have occurred when the lorry driver lost control after encountering brake problems, before ramming to the victim.

"The lorry then rammed into a Honda Civic from behind before crashing onto a kitchen wall of a house in the area.

Fortunately, the occupants in the house were unhurt and only sustained minor injuries," he said and adding the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport 1987 for negligent and dangerous driving.

He said the lorry driver and his attendant suffered serious injury after being trapped in the mangled prime mover while the Honda Civic's driver only suffered minor injuries.
