Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak attended the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI)-Petronas Malaysian Press Night (MPN) 2017 at the Shangri-La Hotel here tonight.

Najib, accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, arrived at the largest gathering of Malaysian journalism community at 8.45 pm.

Present were Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, Joint Chairman of MPN 2017 who is also Harian Metro/Metro Ahad Group editor-in-chief Datuk Mustapa Omar, MPI chief executive officer Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, editor-in-chief Datuk Zakaria Abd Wahab and also editors-in-chief of most mainstream media organisations in the country.

A total of 291 entries competed for cash and prizes in 20 categories of the Malaysian Journalism Award 2016 at the event.

The winner of each category will receive cash of RM10,000, certificate and trophy, while the journalist with the best report will be awarded with the prestigious Kajai Award, which comes with cash of RM30,000, certificate, trophy and other accompanying prizes.

For the first time in its series, the MPN will also confer the Tokoh Media award to an individual who had significantly contributed to the development of the journalism industry. --Bernama
