A newborn baby boy with its skull cracked and umbilical cord still attached was found dead in the Klang River near the Sungai Udang jetty, Wednesday.

South Klang district police chief ACP Mohd Mat Yusop said the remains were discovered by a jetty keeper who was collecting discarded empty cans at the river bank around 9am.

"The jetty keeper initially thought the baby which was unclothed was a doll as it was lying among a garbage heap," he said when contacted by Bernama.

He said the remains of the newborn, believed to have died three days ago, had been sent to the forensic laboratory at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for post mortem.

Mohd Mat urged members of the public with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station.
