UBON RATCHATHANI (Thailand): National women's fencer, Philippa Jean Ong Ziyi added to Malaysia's gold haul at the 20th ASEAN University Games (AUG) after she won the women's individual foil event this evening.

Phlippa, 18, beat Doungpattra Sasinpat 15-10 in their match at Sunee Tower and won the country's only gold medal on the fifth day of the Games.

"I cheered and cried after the match as I was so relieved with my achievement.

"After this, I will try to compete in the epee and sabre team events. It is my first time competing in those events and I will do my best," she said after the match.

The national fencing team also won a bronze in the men's individual epee event through Isaac Seet Kai Xuan.

Meanwhile, Natania Tai Li Suet fell short in delivering a medal when she lost in the quarter-finals of the women's individual sabre event.

Fencing has so far contributed two gold, two silver and one bronze medal at the Games.
