KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened an investigation into allegations that a businesswoman was molested by a politician at her residence in Taman Bukit Melawati, here in August last year.

According to the Ampang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Esha, they received a report from the 48-year-old woman on March 16.

He said the incident took place between July and August last year when the victim and her husband were visited by their good friend who is a politician with his wife at their residence.

However, in the early morning of the incident when the victim was sleeping in the living room on the first floor, the victim claimed to have been kissed and her breasts squeezed by the suspect.

“Early in the morning, while the victim was sleeping on the first floor living room, the victim suddenly awoke and felt she was being kissed and her breasts being squeezed.

“After the suspect realised the victim was awake, the suspect hurried downstairs to go home with his wife.

"The complainant was afraid to lodge a police report all this time for fear of damaging the relationship between the complainant and the suspect," he said in a media statement on Sunday.

Mohamad Farouk said the victim was also unsure what action she should take as the suspect was an influential politician in the East Coast state.

He added the case was being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to ten years or a fine or whipping or any two of those punishments.

To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the case.
