The Public Works Department (PWD) has estimated that it would take between one and two months to repair the 21km stretch of the Penampang-Tambunan Road in Kampung Babagon.

The forced closure of the road yesterday, was the result of a second landslide in two days, caused by a six-hour donwpour which began on Thursday.

A house located in the vicinity of the landslip was also damaged.

The public have thus, been advised to use alternative roads, such as Jalan Kimanis-Keningau.

State PWD director Datuk John Anthony said repair works on the road - frequently utilised by Keningau-bound heavy vehicles - were expected to be completed by July-end.

He did not rule out the probability that the landslip might have been caused by irresponsible parties carrying out digging works nearby.

Anthony was speaking to reporters when met at the site of the road closure this morning.

Meanwhile, Works Deputy Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said she would ensure that Sabah roads which were frequently damaged, especially in high-risk areas, would be rectified.
