The foul sewer smell said to have affected the business of a restaurant in Taman Serai Maju, Bagan Serai, Perak recently, is actually caused by the restaurant's very own clogged sewer pipe, Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) explained.

IWK senior communication manger Shahrul Nizam Sulaiman said a team of IWK officers had been deployed to check the IWK sewer line near the premises soon after receiving the report on Dec 9.

"The investigation revealed that the foul sewer smell was caused by the clogged sewer pipe at the restaurant.

"The investigation also found that the owner of the restaurant did not install any oil traps in its sewer line," he told Bernama when contacted.

To check on the possibility of the IWK sewerage being faulty, Shahrul Nizam said the team had carried out another investigation at the restaurant on Dec 15.

"We have also showed them the footage from the mini underground closed circuit television (CCTV) camera installed near the IWK sewer line and it was proven that their broken and clogged sewer pipe were the cause of the overflowed wastewater and foul smell at the premises.

"Upon our advice, the restaurant owner has agreed to solve the sewer piping problem to prevent recurrence which could further affect the business," he said.

Yesterday, the owner called on the IWK to immediately solve the problem of overflowing wastewater as it had badly affected their business and caused losses amounting to thousands of Ringgit. - BERNAMA
