KUALA LUMPUR:Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has won nine of the 13 new seats in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly after the official results of the state election were announced yesterday.

Barisan Nasional (BN) won five seats, Perikatan Nasional (PN) three and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) one. The other four seats were won by Warisan Plus in Darau, Limbahau, Segama and Kukusan.

Sabah BN chairman and Sabah UMNO liaison chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin won the Lamag seat with a 661 majority after garnering 3,035 votes to defeat four other candidates, namely from Warisan, Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS), Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah (PPRS) as well as an Independent.

For the Bengkoka seat, Harun Durabi of BN won with a 1,337 majority after polling 2,538 votes to defeat 10 other candidates from Parti Pertubuhan Kinabalu Progresif Bersatu (UPKO), PBS, Parti Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Sabah Bersatu (USNO), PCS, Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan), PPRS and four Independents.

BN's Jasnih Daya won the Pantai Dalit seat with a 3,794 majority after managing 6,868 votes to beat seven others from Warisan, PCS, Parti Liberal Demokratik (LDP), USNO, Gagasan and two Independents.

BN also won the Tanjung Keramat seat through Shahelmey Yahya, who polled 4,594 votes for a 1,124 majority win over four others from Warisan, PCS, LDP and USNO.

The Sungai Manila seat also went to BN when Mokran Ingkat earned 4,585 votes for a 1,417 majority over five other candidates from Warisan, PCS, USNO, LDP and PPRS.

Meanwhile, there was a surprising result for the Pintasan seat when PN's Fairuz Rendan won by a slim 84-vote majority en route to defeating USNO's former Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, who managed 2,660 votes.

Fairuz, who is also Sabah Armada (Youth) head, polled 2,744 votes to also defeat four other candidates from Warisan, PCS, PPRS and an Independent.

PN also won the Bandau seat through Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, who earned a 3,363 majority to beat candidates from Warisan, USNO, PCS, LDP and an Independent.

Flovia Ng, also of PN, won the Tulid seat with a 544 majority to beat six others from BN, Warisan, PBS, PCS, USNO and LDP.

PBS managed to win the new Telupid state seat when Jonnybone J Kurum earned 685 votes to overcome four others from UPKO, BN, PCS and LDP.

The four seats won by Warisan were for Darau (Azhar Matussin - 562 majority); Limbahau (Juil Nuatim - 2,523 majority); Segama (Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi - 2,168 majority); and Kukusan (Rina Jainal - 10 majority).

The Dewan Rakyat had earlier approved the redelineation of electoral boundaries for Sabah to increase the number of state seats from 60 to 73.
