Ten local residents are creating a mural to remember 18 victims, who perished in the Sabah earthquake, on a wall at The Kundasang War Memorial.

Japiril Sohaimin, 51, who mooted the idea, said they started painting the mural on Thursday and expected to complete anytime soon.

"The main purpose of this mural is to revive the Ranau community spirit in the wake of the earthquake," he told Bernama here on Saturday.

Other than to honour the victims who perished in the earthquake, he said the mural was also aimed at attracting tourists to visit Kundasang.

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake, the strongest yet in Malaysia, rocked Sabah at 7.15am on June 5.

Eighteen people - four mountain guides and 14 climbers - were killed in the earthquake, 10 of whom were from Singapore, six from Malaysia, one from Japan and one from China.
