Police are urging the public to come forth with information, regardless of how 'small' it is to assist in the ongoing search for six-year-old William Yau Zhen Zhong.
The search for Yau, who has been missing since last Wednesday at Putra Heights, has been instensifed with the police deciding to distribute hundreds of flyers in Subang yesterday.
However during a random check by Astro Awani around the Subang area showed that quite a number of people are still unaware about the incident. Several others said more should have been done by both police and public.
"Even if people knew about it, is it just merely an unfortunate story. Are we actually doing something about it?" asked 23-year-old student Sunil Akhtar.
The Subang Jaya police leading the special task force in search of Yau, also called for shop operators near Putra Heights, where Yau disappeared last Wednesday to assist them.
"Our investigation showed there may have been quite a number of people around the area, where the boy went missing that evening. We believe somebody might have seen something, so we urge them to help us," said district police chief ACP Yahaya Ramli.
So far police have scoured the area for witnesses and evidence, taking statements from more than 10 individuals and combing through dozens of CCTV camera footages with no positive results.
Police are expected to widen their search into squatter areas, and make door-to-door checks in the neighbourhood. They will also return to the scene again with sniffer dogs.
Police have also been receiving calls from the public, some claiming to have seen Yau.
"So far none of the information we've received has been fruitful. But that doesn't mean we are stopping because we still want every bit of information," said Yahaya.
Meanwhile Yahaya also asked the public to cease hurling abuses at the family during their time of grief.
Yau's parents have received multiple calls, a number of them blaming the couple for leaving their children in the car.
Yahaya warned that anybody, who was holding the boy is committing an offence under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping a child from his lawful guardian.
Yau was left in the car with his siblings, aged seven and one, when his parents visited a shop in Putra Heights on the evening of Jan 16.
The parents returned 15 to 20 minutes later to find him missing.
Those with any information on Yau can contact Subang Jaya police at 03-56319800, Sergeant Goh Lai Thang at 012-219713, Putra Heights police station chief Sub Inspector Nordin Mustaffa at 012-3150775 or Kok Kang at 016-9691616. They can also contact the nearest police station.
