SINGAPORE: Singapore will be revising toll charges at the Tuas Checkpoint from March 31, 2023, to match Malaysia's recent revision of toll charges at the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Second Link highway.

"This adjustment is in line with Singapore's long-standing policy of matching Malaysia's toll rates," said the republic's Land Transport Authority (LTA) on its website today.

The agency said the revision will involve all vehicle categories except Motorcycles.

LTA noted that there are no changes to the toll charges at the Woodlands Checkpoint.

The new toll charges for cars will be at S$2.10; vans/ light goods vehicles at S$5.60; heavy goods vehicles at S$11.30; taxis at S$1.60; and buses at S$2.50.

Similar to Malaysia's revision, there will be a standard toll fare for all days as there is no peak or off-peak rate offered anymore.

On Feb 25, 2023, PLUS Malaysia Bhd announced on its website that it will reinstate the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza off-peak rate back to the original standard toll fare from March 1, 2023.

"With this standardisation, all vehicles passing through the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza will be charged as per the present peak hour rates," the expressway operator said.

PLUS said the off-peak hour toll rates were introduced in 2018 at the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza as part of a move to encourage the public to utilise the toll plaza to exit and enter Singapore.

However, the operator said after more than five years of its implementation, the move received lukewarm response from highway users.

It added that based on data, the number of daily vehicles at the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza remained identical to the traffic volume recorded before the off-peak hour toll rates were offered.

"There has been no significant increase in traffic during off-peak hours at the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza till today," it said.

PLUS noted that traffic statistics also indicate that more than 50 per cent of the vehicles during off-peak hours at the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza are Singapore registered vehicles.

The new toll charges for cars are RM6.14; for vans/ light goods vehicles RM17.10; for heavy goods vehicles RM34.30; for taxis RM4.67; and for buses RM7.45.

There is no toll charges for motorcyles at both sides.
