Chanting, 'Stop killing, start spaying', more than 100 animal lovers marched peacefully from the Penang City Council (MBPP) to Komtar today, urging the Penang Government not to kill strays.

Their primary goal was to hand over their memorandum to the state government and create awareness on the MBPP's culling of stray animals.

The motive of the rally was to end the cruel killing of stray dogs and cats by the MBPP crew and allow the public access to adopt dogs from the pound.

A rally representative, Narashini Vannamalai said they were not against the state government or any political party but wanted 'rights' for the poor animals to live and be taken proper care of.

She claimed that culling of dogs had not stopped after the rabies outbreak in Penang since September.

Kelly Khor Hooi Ling, 49, said she had taken a photo of an MBPP crew catching stray dogs at Paya Terubong during midnight.
