A female student of Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) who lost her way on Gunung Datuk here yesterday, was found safe last night.

State Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Johari Ahmad said Glausia a/p Galayan, an Iban from Sarawak, was found by a search team at 8.47pm.

"She was found at 263 metres from sea level and taken down at 11.48pm. She had injured her leg and was sent to the Alor Gajah Hospital," he said today.

The victim was believed to have lost her way when climbing down after reaching the 884 metre peak during a solo climb at about noon yesterday.

It is learnt that Glausia, 20, from the Alor Gajah, Malacca branch of UniKL, alerted friends and also called the authorities for help.

Twelve firemen from the Rembau Fire and Rescue Station, and personnel of the Forestry Department and police began a search and rescue operation at 5pm.

Meanwhile, Johari reminded the public to limit their climbing activities during the rainy season and to do so in groups to avoid untoward incidents.

Gunung Datuk is popular among mountain climbers and it is also a tourist draw in the state.
