The Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V will be installed as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong in a ceremony steeped in Malay royal customs and tradition at Istana Negara today.

The ceremony in the federal capital will begin with the arrival of 47-year-old Sultan Muhammad V at Bunga Raya Complex, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 9am.

The Sultan will be greeted by Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak, who is also the ceremony's Special Committee chairman, and his wife, Datin Seri Raya Erom.

According to the itinerary book, the royal entourage will then head to Parliament Square for an official ceremony before proceeding to Istana Negara for the swearing-in and signing of the Letter of Proclamation.

Among those who will attend the ceremony are the Malay rulers, Yang Dipertua Negeri and cabinet ministers.

Also taking his oath of office today is the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Both Their Majesties, appointed to their respective posts for the next five years, were chosen by the Malay rulers at the 243rd Meeting (Special) of the Conference of Rulers held in October.

The installation ceremony will be broadcast live by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) on the TV1 channel. -- Bernama
