The Terengganu government has formulated various mitigation plans to prepare for floods especially at flood-prone districts.

State Flood Committee chairman Datuk Wan Nawawi Wan Ismail said the state government together with other federal government agencies had been preparing the transportation and rescue boats as well as food supplies.

"We are confident that if flooding occurs, we will arrive at the scene with food supplies and other necessities within 24 hours," he told reporters after closing the Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM) festival here Thursday.

Also present was state education director Shafruddin Alin Hussin.

Wan Nawawi, who is also the state secretary, said district officers in flood-prone areas had been directed to show their commitment in mobilising rescue efforts during flood season.

Meanwhile, Shafruddin stressed that the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) candidates would not be affected by the floods.

"If flood occurs, we will make sure that students can continue to sit for the examinations, either we send them to the examination centre or we relocate the centre to a safer place," he said.
