A foreign woman and a young girl, believed to be her daughter were trapped in a burning two-storey house in Taman Sinaran, early Thursday morning.

Gerik chief police, Superintendent Ismail Che Isa said that the woman in her mid-50s, 12-year-old daughter, by the billowing smoke which had travelled from the lower half of the house while it was burning.

It was reported that the victims attempted an escape but their efforts turned futile due to locked doors.

According to Ismail, witnesses had allegedly heard screams and the victims attempting to flee the house.

"At that time, thick smoke had started to fill up the house compound. After that the victims were not seen and it was assumed by witnesses that they had moved upstairs.

"Witnesses attempted to break down the house windows in order to save the victims, however the scorching heat from the flames didn't allow anyone entry into the house," stated to reporters.

Ismail states, both victims were trapped in a room located on the top floor and that the victims' physical appearance remain unchanged, bar some skin discolouration.

"One of the victims was stood in front of the room door, while the other was stood by the window.

"Both corpses were transported to Hospital Gerik for autopsies and police are still waiting for the full report in order to find out the initial cause of this incidence," stated Ismail.
