A two-year-old girl was among five foreigners detained by the Kedah Immigration Department in an operation at a night market in Kulim on Saturday.

Its director Mohamad Yusri Hashim said the foreigners who were between two to 56 years old, were detained in two separate locations around Kulim while seeking donations and begging.

He said a man, woman, and the girl who were Cambodian nationals, as well as a Thai man, were detained while begging at the night market.

"Another Thai man was detained while collecting donations for the construction of a mosque," he said in a statement Sunday.

He said investigations found that a male Cambodian national was found without valid documents, an offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amended 2002).

Mohamad Yusri said the woman and girl who were Cambodian nationals, as well as two Thai men were detained under Regulations 39(b) Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating pass conditions," he said.
