PETALING JAYA: The investigation into the Wisma Jakel fire incident, in Section 7 Shah Alam near here, which is now in the final stage, detected no criminal element, said Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) deputy director, Wan Md Razali Wan Md Ismail.

"The investigation into the Wisma Jakel fire has now entered the final stage and no criminal elements have been detected at this stage. We are confident that we will be able to complete the investigation soon," he told reporters at the Chinese New Year (CNY) Fire Safety Campaign at a shopping centre in Damansara, here today.

The media previously reported that the leading textile store caught fire twice on Jan 1 and 3, involving estimated losses of almost RM100 million.

Meanwhile, commenting on the campaign, he said that the JBPM conducted spot checks at premises and locations of public focus, to ensure that the locations are safe from any fire risk.

"As of yesterday (Jan 17) we have inspected a total of 28 premises throughout Selangor," he said.

He also advised people who want to return to their hometown during the celebration to ensure that the house is secured, and the vehicle is properly maintained, get enough rest and plan the trip in advance.

The CNY Fire Safety Campaign runs from Jan 2 to 30.
