PAS named Dr Abdul Rani Osman, the Meru state assemblyman as its candidate for the Sungai Besar parliamentary by-election on June 18.

The announcement was made by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang at a ceremony to announce the candidate and launch the machinery for the by-election at the Sungai Besar PAS headquarters here tonight.

Before his involvement in politics, Dr Rani who has a degree in medicine from Tanta University Egypt, was a medical doctor and ran a private clinic in Meru town.

During the 13th general election he stood on a PAS ticket against Barisan Nasional's Sukaiman Ahmad and won with a 9,079-vote majority.

The Sungai Besar parliamentary by-election will be held on June 18, with nomination day on June 5 and early voting on June 14.
