KUALA LUMPUR:Pakatan Harapan (PH) today agreed to send three names of representatives to participate in the establishment of an Independent Special Committee on Emergency Proclamation.

In a statement today, the PH Secretary's Council said the opposition's participation in the committee was as instructed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to make a recommendation to His Majesty if the Emergency could be terminated earlier, or vice versa.

The three MPs listed are Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (Kulim-Bandar Bharu), Anthony Loke Siew Fook (Seremban) and Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (Kuala Selangor).

"Today, YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Secretary-General of Pakatan Harapan, sent a letter to YB Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) to inform that the opposition will give three names for the Independent Committee.

"The participation of Opposition representatives in this Independent Committee does not change our stance that the reasons given by the Prime Minister regarding the need for an emergency cannot be accepted," according to the statement.

The statement was signed by Saifuddin himself as the Secretary-General of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Loke (organising secretary of the DAP ), and Datuk Dr Hatta Ramli (Secretary-General of Parti Amanah Negara).

In addition, the PH Secretariat Council remains adamant that the majority of Opposition MPs remain with the stand that this emergency needs to be ended and Parliament needs to convene immediately.

Yesterday, Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the opposition bloc agreed to send three names of MPs to join the Independent Special Committee which will directly advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the emergency implemented until August 1.
