Former MIC president’s son, Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari announced that he is pulling out of the vice-president race, again.
Instead, he said, he will be contesting for a central working committee (CWC) post in the party’s election, scheduled to be held in November.
In a statement, Vell Paari said he had come to the decision after discussion with party leadership.
“It was not an easy decision to make. I have already travelled around the country campaigning has a candidate for Vice President,” he said in the statement today.
“Majority said in addition to my services, electing me was their way to repay my father for his sacrifices to MIC,” he said.
“But for party solidarity and unity, my need does not outweigh the need of MIC and the community. Hence I am offering myself as a CWC candidate.,” he added.
The only son of former party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu had offered himself for the vice-president post in the party's 2009 election but had pulled out later.
He had promised to not repeat his actions this time when he announced that he was running for a vice-president post, almost two weeks ago.
With Vell Paari out of the picture, there are now three leaders vying for the vice-president posts - former youth chiefs Datuk T. Mohan and Datuk S.A. Vigneswaran and S. Sunther, the son of former MIC deputy president Tan Sri S. Subramaniam.
The MIC's election will be held on Nov 6 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) where some 1,500 delegates are expected to attend.
They will vote for three vice-presidents and 23 CWCs.
The party's president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramnaiam who won unopposed on Aug 21 had said that he will not endorse any candidate for the party elections next month.

A crisis was sparked in MIC following differences in opinion between Palanivel and Dr Subramaniam on the notice issued by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) last Dec 5 directing the party to hold fresh elections.
The crisis escalated when RoS director general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah in a letter dated June 25 to MIC interim CWC 2009 secretary general A.Sakthivel said that Palanivel was no longer "ipso facto" an MIC member.
