Seasoned outfit Police opened their Premier League campaign in style by gunning down NS Betaria 5-0 at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka as the new season kicked off Monday.

Kedah, Sabah, Sarawak and Pos Malaysia also made winning starts after collecting full points from their respective matches while former powerhouses Kuala Lumpur and Perlis started on the losing side.

Sime Darby and Johor shared the spoils in a goalless draw while newcomers SPA Putrajaya suffered their first taste of Premier League action with a 1-2 defeat to Sabah.

In Kangar, Perlis failed to take advantage of playing the match at their home turf, Utama Stadium, when they lost 1-2 to Sarawak after taking the lead through import Antwi Dennis' 15th minute strike.

In Melaka, Kedah returned to winning ways by overcoming Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) 2-0 at the Hang Tuah Stadium.

At the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah's Shahrul Azhar Ture also struck a brace in the 5th and 71st minutes to ensure all three points for his team against SPA Putrajaya who scored their solitary goal through Welsh import David Weston in the 28th minute.

Pos Malaysia pulled off an upset by edging Kuala Lumpur 3-2 at the Selayang Stadium while Johor and Sime Darby FC failed to score at the Tan Sri Hasan Yunos Stadium in Larkin to share the spoils.
