The Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas and his consort Toh Puan Majimor Shariff were among dignitaries, politicians and former shuttlers who were at the Batu Gantong Crematorium where badminton legend Datuk Eddy Choong Ewe Beng (pic) was cremated at 3pm today.

The cortege had earlier left the family home on Bell Road about 2.15pm, accompanied by Choong's wife Maggie his four children, Datuk Finn, Lionel, Jorgen and Antonio and about 100 family members, relatives and friends.

Former national shuttlers Mohd Razif Sidek, Ong Ewe Hock were among those present.

Mohd Razif when met told reporters that Eddy Choong was very generous in offering his advise and sharing his knowledge.

"His death is a big loss to badminton and sports as a whole. He can talk about badminton a whole day. Whenever he is around the topic of conversation was always badminton, he said.

Choong was reported to have died of heart complications and internal bleeding (stomach) at the Loh Guan Lye Specialist Centre here on Monday.

He was a four-time All-England singles champion in 1953, 1954, 1956 and 1957, rocking the Empress Hall in London in an era when the game was dominated by European players.
