Arsenal rose on Saturday to fourth place in the Barclays Premier League charts after ‘suffering’ on ninth place last week.

Mikel Arteta's goal in the 84th minute secured the points needed for Arsene Wenger's troops against Queens Park Rangers.

Arteta’s late strike gave the Gunners a slim 1-0 victory.

Four minutes earlier, QPR defender Stephane M'Bia was sent off the field for kicking Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.

The sent-off was an advantage for Arsenal as QPR was then reduced to 10 men.

Champions Manchester City also gained a 1-0 win over Swansea with striker Carlos Tevez’s low corner shot in the 61st minute which beat Swan keeper Michel Vorm.

The victory lifted them to second spot and a point behind current leader Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic received its first win at its own soil after beating West Ham 2-1 with Iván Ramis’ goal in the 8th minute and James McArthur’s in the 47th.

West Ham scored its goal in the 93rd minute through James Tomkins.

Also in last night’s match, two games resulted in draws with Reading tying a 3-3 draw with Fulham and Stoke City tied to Sunderland with no goals.
