Brazilian football legend Pele was back in hospital Monday in Sao Paulo, days after he underwent surgery for kidney stones.

"He has been admitted here. But we have not received any details yet on his condition," said a spokesman for Albert Einstein Hospital. Local media reported that Pele was being treated for a urinary infection.

The man born as Edson Arantes do Nascimento underwent surgery November 13 for kidney stones.

At that time, the 74-year-old was taken to hospital with what close associate and aide Jose Fornos Rodrigues initially indicated was a stomach ailment that forced Pele to miss a book launch in his hometown, Santos. He was released two days later.

Pele, born in a humble home in the city of Tres Coracoes, became what many call the greatest footballer in history.
