National Sports Council (NSC) Director-general Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong said national singles coach Rashid Sidek's resignation was a huge loss to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and badminton in the country.

Zolkples who was shocked with Rashid's resignation said the former shuttler was among a number of prominent local coaches the country had produced but hoped it would not disrupt BAM's plans to strengthen the coaching and training programme.

"I am aware of the changes brought about by the new leadership but did not expect it would result in the resignation of Rashid. I only came to know about the resignation (Rashid) through the local dailies," he told reporters at his office, here, today.

According to reports, Rashid quit his job on Thursday due to frustration and disappointment with the Badminton Association of Malaysia's (BAM) management as he felt due respect was not given to the coaches - especially those with vast experience.

BAM's Talent Management Group (TMG) director Tan Aik Mong who is said to have been given the authority to hire and fire by Tengku Mahaleel, has made some drastic changes in the coaching and training structure.

Meanwhile, Rashid when met after an hour's meeting with Zolkples to discuss details of his resignation, said he was not comfortable with the new directives or working environment.

"I am not happy with the new working regime and the way the new management is treating us. I don't enjoy working or rather coaching under such circumstances. It is like they do not trust me or my work.

"I have been with the BAM for 10 years now and I have never had any problems," he said adding that his decision to quit was final.
