The Terengganu Amateur Volleyball Association (Tava) has secured the services of Stanley Yap to guide the state's squad for the 2016 Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak.

Tava honourary secretary, Mohd Nasir Yusof said Yap had begun training the men's and women's volleyball squads in Hulu Terengganu since March 1.

"This is an initiative by Tava in its medal hunt at the biennial games," he told Bernama when met here today.

Prior to this appointment, Yap was coaching the Kuala Lumpur Sukma squad.

Apart from that, Mohd Nasir said Tava had also called up 28 male and 20 female players to undergo training before being shortlisted for the final teams next year.

Mohd Nasir said Tava would also be scouting for new players based on the competitions they participated last year.

"This year, we have two players who played at ASEAN school level and hope they will help inspire other players," he said.

Apart from that, Mohd Nasir said Tava would send four players to compete in a tournament held in conjunction with the Sultan of Johor's birthday celebrations in Johor Baharu from March 27 to 29.

He said the exposure would be an opportunity for the players to gain experience.
