In just a few hours after 'opening shop', "Cendol Abang Kacak" who had gone viral on social media since Sunday, managed to sell more than 100 bowls of cendol.

"I only operate at Jalan Bandar Timah here on weekends. On weekdays, I operate at Jalan Yang Kalsom as there are more customers," M. Kelvinraj told Bernama when met here today.

Using a three-wheeled motorcycle to peddle his cendol trade, he said he had been helping his family in the business for two months and had not expected to go 'viral'.

The dashing 18-year-old said he could sell about 150 bowls and takeaway packets of cendol on a normal day while on weekends, about 300.

It was a friend, he said, who told him that his cendol business had become a source of attention on social media.

"I am quite thrilled that people commended my commitment at it. At the same time, I hope my business will thrive because it means a lot to me. I aim to help my father open a cendol shop one day."

Kelvinraj said many of his loyal customers had told him that the speciality of his cendol lies in the distinctive taste of 'gula melaka' and coconut milk.

"Maybe some cendol sellers mix the 'gula melaka' with sugar, and mix water to the coconut milk to save on costs, but my mother uses hundred percent natural 'gula melaka' and coconut milk," he revealed.

His working hours is from 12noon to 4.30pm: "I will be around for three to four hours, depending on the number of customers".

Meanwhile, Afiq Naimuallah, 18, a college student who lives in Pengkalan Pegoh said he immediately liked the flavour of the cendol when he tasted it for the first time.

"I would usually only have 'ice kachang', but the cendol that Kelvinraj offers is indeed very good. The 'gula melaka' is not very sweet as to cause sore throat. The taste is just right," he said.

Private sector employee, Nursyasya Ahmad Zaidi, 19, decided to try the popular traditional dessert after watching 'Cendol Abang Kacak', and could not help gushing, "Most delicious I have ever tasted, I can have two bowls at once". - BERNAMA
