The DAP 2022 Special Congress today passed a motion to amend its constitution prohibiting its elected representatives from party hopping in line with the Anti-Party Hopping Bill passed in Parliament.

The Constitution (Amendment) (No.3) Bill that prohibits MPs from switching parties will be presented to the King for approval soon.

Following the passing of the anti-party hopping bill in the Dewan Rakyat, several states are likely to amend their state constitutions to also prevent state assemblymen from switching parties.

The Dewan Rakyat today is expected to see the winding up of the debate and a vote on the Constitutional (Amendment) Bill (No. 3) 2022 on Provisions Preventing MPs from Switching Parties.

Ismail Sabri said the historic constitutional amendment was made to protect the mandate given by the people during the general election.

This bill went through a process of discussion and debate between members of Parliamentary Special Select Committee, said Wan Junaidi.

Wan Junaidi said the bill had involved many engagement sessions since January and is already widely known among Dewan Rakyat MPs.

The issue on living cost is also expected to be a topic of discussion at this coming sitting.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders will hold an immediate meeting with Ismail Sabri to discuss the anti-party hopping bill and three matters related to the MoU between PH and the federal government.

Wan Junaidi said the matter was unanimously agreed in the special select committee meeting.

Wan Junaidi said information regarding the Select Committee cannot be disclosed to the public as it is still under discussion.

The Bill would be tabled and debated in both the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara at a time that will be determined later.
