Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today confirmed that he has been named the new Opposition Leader by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council.

The PKR President revealed the matter through a live Facebook post on Thursday, adding that his name had been communicated to Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof.

“Yes, PH Secretary, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has already informed the speaker on the decision of the Presidential Council which has also been communicated to all opposition parties and Warisan.

" Anwar has been named the new Opposition Leader once again," the Port Dickson MP said today.

He said this when asked by a Facebook user whether the opposition had finalised the Opposition Leader and that it had been notified to the Speaker of the House or not.

Prior to this, Anwar in an interview in the ‘Consider This’ programme on Astro AWANI had informed that he was in the position of Opposition Leader after the PH component party unanimously voted for him.

“For PH, it's still the same, I'm the chairman. However, we will continue to work with leaders from other opposition parties, "he said in the Astro AWANI issue on April 21.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has confirmed that he will sit in the opposition block during this session of Parliament that will convene for a day on May 18.
