A female lawyer was charged in two separate magistrate's courts here today with cheating two individuals involving a non existent affordable apartment investment.

J. Shanti, 47, claimed trial to misleading lorry spare parts company director Teh Jit Keong, 46, into investing in a purported affordable flat and depositing two cheques amounting to RM300,000 into her account.

She allegedly committed the offence at Blok E, Oasis Square, No. 2, Jalan PJU 1A/7A, Ara Damansara here, on July 6, 2016.

She also claimed trial to misleading a woman, Saw Lae Kun, 31, in the same manner involving RM150,000, at the same place on the same day.

The two charges are under Section 420 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 10 years imprisonment with whipping and liable to a fine on conviction.

Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir and Datin Fadzlin Suraya Mohd Suah respectively set RM15,000 as bail with one surety, and impounded the accused's passport pending disposal of the cases.

Deputy public prosecutor Fazeedah Faik and Natasha Chin Le Jy appeared for the prosecution while counsel Lim You Ping represented the accused whose surety posted bail.

The two courts set May 4 and May 8 for remention. -- Bernama
