Go to the ground and help those affected by the flood, instead of spreading unconfirmed news in the social media.

This was the advise by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to social media users who are responsible for spreading false reports on the situation in the flood-hit states in the country.

"Keep the handphones and go to the ground, see how members of the security team work without sleep to help the victims.

"Don't sit in air-conditioned room and spread all the fictitious information," he told reporters after attending a briefing on the latest flood situation in the affected states at the National Disaster Control Centre here Saturday.

Muhyiddin said in times of disaster, like during flood, there would be a lot of discomfort, but the situation was not as bad as was painted and that the government was doing its level best for the victims.

"We have to understand, the condition at the evacuation centres is not as comfortable as staying at home, the food is not as nutritious, but we have done our best to avoid people losing their lives," he added.

On the Subang Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base been made a collection centre to receive aid for flood victims from the public, Muhyiddin suggested the setting up of sub-centres in the other states.

On the school opening for the new term on Jan 5, he said the government would provide the necessary assistance to those affected by the floods.
