The medical industry's participation at the recently concluded Medica 2012 exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany, generated sales of RM26.45 million.

The participation was a collaboration between the Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) and the Ministry of Health, as part of efforts to promote the export of local medical devices products.

In a statement, Matrade said 30 Malaysian companies were represented at the event. Eight were under the Matrade-led Malaysia national pavilion.

MEDICA is the world’s largest medical trade fair for medical devices manufacturers and over 88 business meetings took place between Malaysian companies and foreign buyers from Germany, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and India.

"Among the products foreign buyers were sourcing for included, antiseptic germicide, blood tubing lines, dialysers, hospital beds, accident and emergency patient transport trolleys as well as durable medical equipment," Matrade said.

Matrade already has plans to continue its presence at the exhibition in the future, given the encouraging result of year's event.

"Malaysian companies seeking to pursue the market may contact the Matrade Frankfurt office for further assistance," it said.
