True to its commitment to launch four cars in the year 2016, Proton Holdings Bhd officially launched the Proton Ertiga, its fourth and final model for this year.

The compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) is the first model introduced through Proton’s collaboration with Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan.

Priced between RM58,800 and RM64,800, the Ertiga is the first compact MPV with Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) status.

Proton Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said, the Ertiga comes in two variants - the Executive (manual [MT] and automatic [AT]); and Executive Plus (AT) transmissions.

“The 6-seater people mover family car is fitted with the 1.4 VVT (variable valve timing) engine made from lightweight aluminium for both the variants.

"The multipoint powered injection enables economical fuel consumption at 5.7L/100km for the MT and 6.0L/100km for the AT.

“Meanwhile, the drive-by-wire technology enhances the car’s performance in terms responsiveness.

“One can feel Ertiga’s refinement which at a speed of 110km/h and at 2900 rpm, the engine seem to be fairly muted, and the good suppression of road and wind noise gives the car commendable driveability and significantly quieter noise, vibration and harshness level,” said Ahmad Fuaad at the launch here today.

He further added, in response to the dynamic and demanding modern family lifestyles, the Proton Ertiga is not only fuel efficient, it also provides more space and comfort.

Both versions of the Ertiga have been accorded four-star ASEAN New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) ratings.

Ahmad Fuaad said the company aims to achieve average monthly sales of 1,500 units.

The Ertiga's current local content of 15 per cent could certainly be improved once it reaches a certain sales volume while the completely knocked down (CKD) parts are shipped to the country from Suzuki’s plant in Indonesia.

He said no cannibalisation of the Exora model is expected, as both MPVs cater for a different market segment.
