Seven people died and one is still missing when a motor vessel capsized in a river near May Lun city in Myanmar in the dawn on Thursday, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported local authorities as saying.

The vessel, with 61 passengers on board, which was on a pilgrimage tour from a village in Ann township, Rakhine state to Kyauktaw township, capsized in the Min Chaung river near May Lun township as its machine's fan was jammed with fishing nets.

A total of 53 people survived the tragedy.

Rescue work is underway.
