Sydney Opera House and the nearby Royal Botanic Garden were reopened to the public after information received on social media prompted police to clear the popular tourist sites.

The all-clear was sounded by New South Wales police shortly after 3:30 p.m. local time, and barriers outside the opera house holding back tourists and onlookers were removed.

A police spokeswoman declined to comment on a report in the Sydney Morning Herald that the operation was triggered by a threat of a bomb on board a ferry servicing the beach suburb of Manly and Sydney’s Circular Quay terminal.
