SINGAPORE:"The world changes from year to year, our lives from day to day but the love and memory of you shall never pass away."

That was written on a card attached to one of the many fresh bouquets of flowers placed at Feb 13's Tanjong Pagar deadly crash site here today.

A Bernama check at the scene still saw the victims' friends and passers-by pay their respects at the accident site although it has been boarded up.

If in Malaysia the whole nation was shocked by the Triso jetty tragedy in Sarawak that snatched nine lives including a baby on the first day of 2021, a similar tragedy happened here but it was on the second day of the Chinese New Year.

The tragedy which took place around 5.40 am claimed the lives of five men who were trapped in a burning car.

The Singapore police had said it was the highest number of people killed in a single traffic accident in the past decade.

A young lady is still in the intensive care unit (ICU) due to burns while trying to save her friends, including her fiance, who were in the car.

The woman, who was at the scene, was seen running towards the burning car and right into the flames in a fresh CCTV footage that emerged last night.

Various theories had popped up since the incident but ended as soon as the footage appeared, which clearly showed what really happened that morning.

However, the debate on the incident on social media re-heated, including numerous requests that the video clip should be taken down and not be distributed out of respect to the victims' families.
