GET up to speed on crime thriller "The Accountant," in which Ben Affleck plays a reclusive genius who has become an integral part of the international underworld.

Who's in it and what's it about?

Playing off the idea that accountancy is boring, Ben Affleck stars as Christian Wolff, a reclusive math genius and apparent weapons expert who consults for some of the world's most dangerous criminals.

Being seen in such diverse and rarified company quite naturally brings him to the attention of government agencies, and ever closer to the possibility that one or more of his clients will attempt to eliminate him.

Anna Kendrick is Dana, the woman who discovers the extent of Wolff's personal and professional bind, with J. K. Simmons appearing as the agent on his case and Jon Bernthal as one of Wolff's clients.

Who's behind it?

Director Gavin O'Connor also helmed Natalie Portman western "Jane Got a Gun," the Edward Norton and Colin Farrell thriller "Pride and Glory," and MMA drama "Warrior" starring Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton.

Writer Bill Dubuque co-wrote crime drama "The Judge," which had Robert Downey, Jr. and Robert Duvall as its leads, as well as upcoming Gerard Butler and Alison Brie recruitment specialist drama "The Headhunter's Calling" and Netflix's 2017 series "Ozark."

Of the writer and director's previous work, "The Judge" performed best both commercially and critically; "The Accountant" is O'Connor and Dubuque's first film together.

When's it out?

"The Accountant" starts its international roll-out the week of October 14, when it's made available in the USA and Canada as well as select territories including Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Brazil and Germany are among those joining on October 20, Italy, Spain and some eastern European countries the following week, with the UK and Ireland, France, Belgium, the Philippines, and Russia releasing the film the week of November 4; a Dutch debut is due November 10.
