Local films ‘Bunohan’ and ‘Songlap’ will be competing once again to grab the ‘Best Film’ title for the 25th Malaysian Film Festival which will be held next month.

Apart from the two films, ‘SAM’, ‘Ombak Rindu’ and ‘29 Februari’ were also nominated for that category.

‘Songlap’, a production of Grand Brilliance and Red Films, received 15 nominations – the highest in local film festival history, whereas Bunohan received 13 nominations.

Another film that received high nominations is ‘Hoore! Hoore!’, which received 10 nominations.

However, the film was not nominated for the ‘Best Film’ title.

From the 70 films that competed, only 28 were shortlisted for the final nominations for the festival.

The main attraction for this year is that three main actors of ‘Bunohan’ were nominated in the same category which is the ‘Best Male Actor’ category - another ‘first’ in the Malaysian film history!

The three actors are Faizal Hussein, Zahiril Adzim and Pekin Ibrahim.

Meanwhile, ‘Adnan Sempit’ star, Shaheizy Sam is nominated in two different films, ‘Songlap’ and ‘SAM’.

The change of rules for this year allows film producers to nominate more than one actor in a single category.

’29 Februari’, a production of KRU Studios received 12 nominations, while phenomenal ‘Ombak Rindu’ only received 6 nominations.

The festival, themed ‘Merayakan Perak, Menghilhamkan Emas’ (Celebrating Silver, Inspiring Gold) will be held on March 2 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).
