Well-known local film director Datuk Yusof Haslam fired several warning shots, scaring away robbers who had entered his home early this morning.

In the 2.30am incident at his home in Taman Melawati, Yusof was watching television when he heard his maid scream from the ground floor.

Suspecting something amiss, he grabbed his pistol, a Glock, and fired three warning shots, scaring away the robbers, suspected to be more than three people.

Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Khairuldin Saad said the robbers fled upon hearing the shots. He said investigations revealed that a room on the fourth floor of the house was broken into and ransacked.

"Suspects were masked and dressed in black. They were not wearing any gloves,” Khairuldin added.

Initial investigation revealed that two rooms in the house were ransacked and suspects had also entered the maid’s room but were not able to take anything as the maid, who was sleeping, suddenly woke up and started screaming for help.

He said the total amount of losses has not been determined yet.

The security guard who was on duty did not realise robbers had entered the house.
