The public are advised not to have outdoor activities during heavy rain to avoid the risk of being struck by lightning

Meteorology Department deputy director-general (Operations) Dr Mohd Rosaidi Che Abas said the country was now in a transitional monsoon phase which began in mid-March and expected to continue until May.

"The weak wind condition from various directions encourages the formation of thunderstorms and heavy rain, especially in the afternoon and early evening,

"This situation (thunderstorm and rain) mostly occur in areas in the west coast states and interior of the Peninsula, west coast of Sabah and the western and central regions of Sarawak," he told Bernama here today.

He was asked to comment on the frequency of rain, causing flash floods that occurred lately in various areas, especially in the Klang Valley and several areas in Selangor due to the erratic weather. - BERNAMA
