Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the policemen, who were involved in the ambush by a group of armed men in Kampung Sri Jaya, Simunul, Semporna, Sabah, have been accounted for.

“The policemen have been accounted for including those were killed,” he said.

Hamza said this at a press conference to announce the names of the six police officers, who perished in the attack on Saturday night.

He said those, who were killed include Superintendent Ibrahim bin Lebar from Bukit Aman special branch, Assistant Superintendent of Police Micheal Padel from IPD Semporna special branch, Sergeant Baharin Hamit from IPK Sabah special branch, Sergeant Aziz Sarikun from BN 14 PGA Tawau, Corporal Salam Togiran from IPD Tawau and Lance Corporal Mohd Azrul Tukiran from BN 14 PGA Tawau.

Meanwhile, the Royal Malaysian police (PDRM) said that the bodies of the six fallen heroes are expected to be sent back for burial at their respective hometowns in Sabah and Peninsula Malaysia today.

PDRM announced the matter in their official Facebook page.

Ibrahim and Mohd Azrul’s bodies are expected to arrive at the Subang Airforce around 6pm while Micheal’s body is expected to arrive at the Kuching Airport at 5.30pm today.

Baharin’s body is expected to arrive at Kota Kinabalu Airport around 2pm today, while Aziz and Salam’s bodies are to be taken to their respective hometowns in Semporna and Tawau via a mortuary van.

PDRM also said Inspector Mohamad Hasnal Jamil, who was injured on his body and both hands, is still being treated in the Tawau Hospital.

He is reportedly stable.
