A British engineer was fined RM100 by the Magistrate's Court here today after he pleaded guilty to using abusive language on a policeman last week.

Magistrate Siti Radziah Kamarudin also ordered that the accused, Morgan Aled, 50, be imprisoned for 14 days if he failed to pay the fine.

Morgan was charged with using abusive and rude words which were insulting on a policeman at the towing unit of the Traffic Police Station, Jalan Tun H. S. Lee, at 12.30am on July 17.

The man was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act which allows for a maximum fine of RM100.

According to the facts of the case, Morgan allegedly uttered the abusive words in English when he questioned the actions of the police for detaining the car driven by his wife on the day of the incident.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Diana Nor Azwa urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence while the accused who was not represented apologised for his actions.
