Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Kelantan state education department has issued the letter to allow the children of the detained couple in Sweden to continue their studies in the state.

Muhyiddin who is also the Education Minister said the four children who are said to be not very fluent in Malay language, will be aided to help them master the language.

“This is a non-issue for us. We will ensure the children are given school near to their home,” he said.

“If they are not very fluent in Bahasa Melayu, then during lesson, we will give more emphasis to BM,” he said..

On Monday, Kelantan state education department deputy director Zahari Daud said the department had given the letter to the four siblings, Aishah, 14, Amar, 12, Adam, 11 and Arif, 7, allowing them to go to local schools in the state.

Aishah will join form two in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Kala, while Amar who is in standard six, Adam standard five and Arif standard one will join Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Padang Kala Dua.

Zahari said the education department and teachers in the school will monitor and help the children to get adjusted to school.

He said that although they could not understand the Malay language well, it is not a barrier for the school to help the four siblings.

"The school is near to their home, they can register anytime, even tomorrow if they are ready," he told Astro AWANI.

Meanwhile, the eldest child of the couple, Aishah expressed her happiness to be able to go to school here and added that the four siblings have yet to buy school uniforms.

The prosecution last week received a court order for the remand order against their parents Azizul Raheem Awaluddin and Shalwati Norshal to be extended for an additional 11 days until Feb 10 to facilitate investigation

The couple had their remand order extended three times since being detained.

Sweden has no limit on being detained.
