The second driver of an express bus driver was killed while the driver and a passenger were injured after the bus they were travelling rammed the back of a trailer at Km80 of Jalan Lipis-Merapoh, here early today.

Lipis Police District chief Supt Azry Akmar Ayob said the dead victim was identified as Anuar Ismail, 45, from Pasir Mas, Kelantan.

He said in the incident which occurred around 2am, the first bus driver, 55, and a female passenger, 59, were injured.

"The double-decker express bus carrying 42 passengers was heading to Gua Musang from Kuala Lumpur," he told Bernama.

"The bus driver claimed that he did not see the trailer that was being towed on left side of the road due to the spotlight used by the towing truck, and in his attempt to avoid the trailer, the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed the trailer," he said.

Azry Akmar said the co-driver died at the scene and his body was sent to Gua Musang Hospital for post-mortem, while the injured were sent for treatment in the same hospital.

He said the police have also taken a urine sample from the bus driver to assist in the investigation.
