The Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed 67 new COVID-19 cases have been detected, bringing the cumulative number of COVID-19 positive cases in the country to 6,656 cases.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the total, 49 cases were among non-Malaysians.

He said that as of noon today, no COVID-19 related deaths were recorded, maintaining the cumulative death rate at 108 cases or 1.62 per cent.

"To date, as many as 96 cases have recovered and allowed to be discharged, with the cumulative number of cases fully recovered from COVID-19 and being discharged from the ward is 5,025 cases (75.5 per cent of the total cases).

"A total of 18 cases of COVID-19 are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and out of that, 6 cases need respiratory assistance," he said at a daily media conference here on Sunday.

Dr Noor Hisham said the MoH welcomed Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's announcement on the extension of the Conditional Movement Control (PKPB) Order until June 9, 2020.

According to him, the move was to provide the government with a chance to fight the spread of the outbreak to a more controlled level and thus carefully balance the opening of the economic sectors.

"The effectiveness of this action will be evaluated from time to time.

"The MOH will also intensify efforts to reduce COVID-19 positive cases in the country through active case detection and a focused approach to detection, screening and testing of high-risk target groups.

"This can be done more effectively through the implementation of the CMCO as well as the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO)," he added.
