KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia logs another record high of daily COVID-19 cases with a staggering 11,618 cases reported within the last 24 hours.

Of the total of infections reported today, active cases with COVID-19 is now at 101,359. 

Only 26 cases were imported while the remainder of 11,592 were local transmissions.

This marks the second day in a row where cases have surpassed the 11,000 mark, which brings the overall total of infection in the country to 867,567 so far.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah posted via a tweet today that Selangor is accountable for a total of 5,051 cases from the current log. 

Kuala Lumpur recorded another 1,749 cases and Negri Sembilan had 1,537 cases reported.

Meanwhile, Melaka saw 526 cases, followed by Kedah (504), Pahang (400), Johor (396), Sarawak (289), Sabah (286), Kelantan (236) and Penang (210).

Another 189 cases were recorded in Terengganu, followed by Perak (164), Putrajaya (40), Labuan (38) and Perlis (3).

Yesterday, Dr Noor Hisham said the surge in new cases was due to increased COVID-19 testing.

He urged more Malaysians to get their jabs as vaccination is the solution to the COVID-19 pandemic.



Meanwhile, Malaysia recorded a total of 6,377 recoveries today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 759,705 cases.

According to the data from the Ministry of Health (MOH), a total of 118 new COVID-19 deaths were registered, raising the country's death toll to 6,503 to date.

MOH also reported a total of 878 patients receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 432 of these patients require respiratory assistance.
